Yala National Park

Yala or the "Ruhuna National Reserve" is divided into six sections. Whilst Yala Block-1 is the most popular amongst all travelers to Sri Lanka; Blocks 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 are popular destinations amongst the locals. Each reserve presents its own characteristics depending on the season. Block-1 generally gives the best opportunity for visitors to observe the entire spectrum of Fauna and Flora in all seasons.


Yala Block-1 is most popular for its leopards and is renowned to have the highest leopard density in the entire world. Frequently


documented by BBC, National Geography and other nature channels, Yala leopards behave in the most unusual lifestyles compared to leopards elsewhere in the world. Elephants, Buffalos, Crocodiles, Samba, Deer, Jacols are regularly seen amongst an
abundant spectrum of bird-life that makes Yala their home.

Bundala National Park is situated near the town of Tissamaharama in the Hambantota District of Sri Lanka. It is strategically positioned along the country's southeast coast, making it an essential habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna.

 

The park is renowned for its rich biodiversity, particularly its significance as a vital wetland habitat. Bundala is home to an array of bird species, making it an excellent destination for birdwatching enthusiasts. Notably, the park serves as an important wintering ground for migratory birds, attracting a variety of species, including flamingos, pelicans, ibises, and various species of shorebirds.

 

Apart from its avian diversity, Bundala National Park also supports a variety of other wildlife, such as elephants, crocodiles, and various species of deer. The park's ecosystems include dry thorny scrublands, lagoons, and salt pans, contributing to its diverse and unique environment.

Udawalawe National Park

Udawalawe National Park is a renowned wildlife sanctuary located in the southeastern part of Sri Lanka. Nestled in the province of Uva, the park is situated approximately 200 kilometers southeast of Colombo. It is one of the most popular and accessible national parks in Sri Lanka, celebrated for its diverse range of wildlife and the stunning Udawalawe Reservoir.

Udawalawe is primarily known for its thriving population of Sri Lankan elephants. The park provides a natural habitat for these majestic creatures, and visitors are almost guaranteed to witness herds of elephants grazing and bathing in the reservoir. Apart from elephants, Udawalawe is home to various other species, including sambar deer, spotted deer, wild boar, water buffalo, and a variety of bird species.
